4 & 5 years old

WELCOME TO THE

PRE-K CLASSROOM

This is an exciting time for you and your child as you begin to prepare for transition to a Kindergarten classroom. Your child will continue to have classroom experiences that are open-ended and developmentally appropriate. Activities and lessons will also reflect the PA Early Learning Standards and Keystone Stars Environmental Rating Scale.

SOCIAL & EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

1. Show independence in a wide range of activities

2. Know and state independent thoughts and feelings

3. Enter into and initiate play with peers

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT:

1. Ride a tricycle using feet and pedal

2. Climb stairs using alternating feet

3. Manipulate dough and clay by squeezing, pounding, rolling etc.

COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT:

1. Arrange picture cards in sequential order to tell a story

2. Look at information on a graph that they create and explain what they observe

3. Solve problems by guessing and checking & using concrete objects

LANGUAGE & LITERACY DEVELOPMENT:

1. Use letter-like forms, letters or random letter strings to express thoughts, feelings & ideas

2. Demonstrate increasing understanding of new vocabulary introduced in conversations, activities & stories

3. Ask and answer relevant questions and share experiences individually and in groups
