WELCOME TO THE
YOUNG PRESCHOOL CLASSROOM
Your child is likely achieving some degree of independence as far as self-help skill, such as dressing, using the potty & speaking his or her mind about many issues. Your child’s classroom will be an environment rich in printed materials that will encourage exploration and provide opportunity for growth socially, cognitively & physically.
SOCIAL & EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
Show independence in a wide range of activities
Know and state independent thoughts and feelings
Enter and initiate play with peers
PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT:
Ride a tricycle, using feet to pedal
Climb stairs using alternating feet
Manipulate dough and clay by squeezing, pounding, rolling etc.
COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT:
Arrange picture cards in sequential order to tell a story
Look at information on a graph that they create and explain what they observe
Solve problems by guessing and checking, using concrete objects
LANGUAGE & LITERACY DEVELOPMENT:
Use letter like forms, letters or random letter strings to express thoughts, feelings & ideas
Demonstrate increasing understanding of new vocabulary introduced in conversations, activities & stories
Ask and answer relevant questions and share experiences individually and in groups
